ILTexas Students' Mandarin and Taiwanese Cultural Adventure
A group of high school students from ILTexas recently embarked on an exciting and enriching Mandarin learning journey at National Chung Hsing University! Every day brought new experiences, combining language learning with cultural exploration, ensuring that they gained something valuable each day!
In the classroom, they learned the fundamentals of Mandarin and took on various cultural courses. From the intricate art of aboriginal paper-cutting to the physical prowess in martial arts classes, and the strategic battles in Chinese chess lessons, each session left them amazed and delighted, offering a deep dive into the diversity and richness of Taiwanese culture.
In addition to their studies at National Chung Hsing University, they also engaged in two days of in-depth exchanges with students from National Nantou Commercial High School (NNCS) and The Affiliated Senior High School of National Chung Hsing University (SHCH). These activities included city explorations and various outdoor activities, providing a closer look at the daily lives and learning environments of Taiwanese students. These experiences not only enhanced their language skills but also fostered mutual understanding and respect between cultures.
They also ventured across Taiwan, visiting many iconic sites. From learning how to make traditional pastries at the Sunnycake Museum to experiencing the serene atmosphere of Wu-Wei Tea House, these experiences deepened their understanding of Taiwan. The historical charm of the Wufeng Lin Family Mansion and Garden, the powerful lessons at the Earthquake Museum, the majestic scenery of Alishan in Chiayi, and the fresh air of Sun Moon Lake in Nantou—all these places highlighted the diversity and beauty of this land.
The group also explored Changhua and Taipei, where they experienced the vibrant energy of big cities and the simple charm of small towns, adding color and memories to their journey. Each place had its own unique story and culture, making their time in Taiwan even more fulfilling and unforgettable.
This Mandarin learning journey not only improved their language abilities but also gave them a profound understanding and appreciation of Taiwanese culture. We look forward to seeing them again soon!
