How do I transfer to NCHU Chinese Language Center?
Please prepare a certificate of enrollment and a transcript of the university you are currently attending, and submit your application before the beginning of your desired term.
How do I apply if I am already in Taiwan?
You can apply by submitting the application form, the declaration of understanding, and a copy of your passport.
When should I apply if I want to study Mandarin at NCHU CLC?
Applications are accepted starting six months before the beginning of the term.
If I want to study Mandarin in Taiwan, can I apply for a one-year letter of admission?
No, the letter of admission is issue for a maximum duration of 3 months.
How do I apply for a degree program at a university in Taiwan?
Please apply during the offical application period of each university. Applications are usually accepted from January to March each year.
When can I apply for a scholarship?
Please apply through the Taiwanese Representative Office in your country between  February and March every year.
Can scholarship recipients transfer to another university?
Scholarship recipients with a 12-month scholarship are allowed to transfer once. However, those with scholarships of less than 12 months are not eligible for transfer.
Are scholarship recipients required to maintain a certain academic performance or attendance record each semester?
Scholarship recipients may have up to  6 hours of absences per week, and their semester grade must not fall below 70%. Otherwise, they will lose their scholarship for the following month.
When can I receive the scholarship?
Scholarship recipients will receive the payment by the third week of each month at the latest.
Are scholarship recipients allowed to pay the tuition fee in installments?
Yes, scholarship recipients are allowed to pay the tuition fee in two installments.
The first payment time: After you receive the scholarship in the first month of each term.
The second payment time: The second month of each term.
Can I study Chinese in Taiwan if I hold a 60-day or 90-day tourist visa?
Yes, but the tourist visa cannot be extended.
If you plan to study for more than 90 days, it is recommended that you apply for the visitor visa for studying Chinese.
What type of visa should I apply for if I want to study Chinese in Taiwan?
You should apply for the visitor visa for studying Chinese (visa code: FR). This visa allows you to stay in Taiwan for 60 to 90 days.
How do I apply for the visitor visa for studying Chinese?
Please visit the website of the Bureau of Consular Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Click) and fill out the application form first, then submit the application form, the letter of admission, and other required documents to the Taipei Representative Office in your country.

How do I extend my visitor visa?
Submit the following documents to the National Immigration Agency Taichung City First Service Center within 15 days before your visa expires:

1. Application form (Please fill it out first online: Click)

2. Passport (original and one photocopy) 

3. Visitor visa (original and one photocopy)

4. Certificate of Enrollment and Proof of Attendance
How long can the FR visa be extended?
It can be extended for up to 180 days.
Can I convert my tourist or working visa to a visitor visa (purpose of studying Chinese)?
No, you must leave Taiwan and apply through the Taipei Representative Office in your country.
I have been admitted to a university in Taiwan. How can I apply for a student visa?
Please verify the time and procedure for applying for a student visa with the university you are enrolled in. Our center can provide the documents you need to support your application.
When can I convert my visitor visa (purpose of studying Chinese) to the resident visa?
If you have completed 4 months of study at our center and continued enrolled for at least another 3 months, you can apply for a resident visa up to 15 days before your visa expires.
You are required to prepay your tuition for the next term and apply for the letter of admission.

Can I extend my ARC if it expires after two years?
No, you must leave Taiwan and reapply.
Can I work part-time in Taiwan?
Yes. You can apply for a work permit after studying Mandarin continuously for 6 months. Once approved, you may work part-time. 
Can I drive or ride a motorcycle in Taiwan?
Yes. If you hold a valid international driving license, you are allow to drive or drive a motorcycle in Taiwan.
What is the rental price around NCHU?
Rental prices near NCHU range from NT$6,000 to NT$8,000 (approximately US$188 to US$250).
What is the average monthly expense of living in Taichung?
Including accommodation, the average monthly living expense in Taichung is around NT$20,000 (approximately US$625).
